It was the best way
to end one crazy week :) after having to go to uni during the whole week
of mid-sem break, this wedding was such a lovely way to finish the week!
The dinner reception
was held at the Deckhouse in Woolwich which was a lovely venue right next to
the water. And there was a bonus! The wedding was on the weekend of the
International Fleet Review which means… fireworks!! The fireworks were
spectacular and we had such a lovely view right by the water!
And... how about the
food!? The evening started off with a few canapes which unfortunately didn't get
around to us - though I think I saw some peking duck around.
We started with sourdough bread rolls and for the entrees
there were alternatives of seared scallops, parsnip fennel puree, crispy pancetta and mixed herb salad and lamb cutlet with a potato mint salad and yoghurt dressing. I had the seared scallops and it was cooked lovely, just right - I'm usually not a fan of scallops but I really enjoyed this one.
For mains there was barramundi fillet with a lemon risotto, pernod and dill butter and dutch carrots and the other was pancetta wrapped veal loin with olive oil whipped potatoes, caramelised vegetables and roasted olives. There were also bowls of roasted beetroot, honeyed pumpkin, pine nut and rocket salads. I didn't catch a photo of the salad, but it was nice and simple which went with both mains - I was really looking forward especially to the rocket and pine nuts but sadly i could barely fine any pine nuts.
And before the cakes comes the desserts! There was a chocolate fondant with milk ice cream and chocolate shavings and a passionfruit panna cotta with raspberry dust and champagne sorbet. I had the panna cotta which was lovely and what made it even better was the champagne sorbet which was really nice and refreshing and went well with the dish.
Instead of a big wedding cake for the guest there were wedding cake-in-jars (by Sweet Bloom Cakes) which were in cute little jars. One was flavoured white chocolate raspberry cake with vanilla swiss meringue cream and the other was a red velvet cake with cream cheese filling and white chocolate swiss meringue cream.
And the spectacular fireworks!!
Congratulations
Kitty and Matthew!
Have a lovely weeek,
Eileen
On 23 April 2017 I was a guest at my friends' wedding at The Deckhouse. I was also making a video for them as a wedding gift. The staff assumed that I was a service provider of some sort. I ended up looking for a cafe on my way home that night. The things that the staff said to me are inappropriate for a softnstiffpeaks review. If standard levels of decency are part of your criteria, I do NOT recommend The Deckhouse to anyone.
